Message to U14's, U16's, and U19's Regarding Legal Skis

U14, U16, and U19 Athletes and Parents,

Going forward, WPRC U14, U16, and U19 athletes will not be allowed to race unless they have presented legal skis to me.  As stated in the mandatory ski check meetings over Christmas Camp, WPRC Coaches will not represent an athlete unless they have demonstrated that they are on legal skis for the discipline being raced.  If an athlete is not represented at a race, the race organizer will not allow the athlete to start.

All U16 and U19 athletes have demonstrated legal SL and GS skis as of this posting.  U16's who intend to race the Super G at States will need to demonstrate that they have legal skis for this event prior to going in order for our coaches to represent you.  During training on Saturday 1/20, I will meet with the U16 group to discuss how we want to handle the verification of Super G skis, given that many of you will be securing the skis just for States.

While several U14 athletes have presented legal equipment, I am still waiting to verify more than half of the group.  The next GS race for the U14's is the Wisp GS on Sunday 1/21.  I will be at 7 Springs the next 2 weekends, and would like to verify the remaining athletes' equipment.  We are hosting the PA Cups this coming weekend, so I might be preoccupied with the race.  If I can, I will make a effort to check equipment during training this coming weekend.  If I am unable to remove myself from the race venue, I welcome athletes to find me on the race hill to show me their equipment.  I will also be available on Saturday 1/20 to check equipment.

As a reminder, the following are the ski requirements for SL and GS for all U14, U16, and U19 athletes:

  • SL - ski length >= 130cm
  • GS - ski radius >= 17m

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the ski rules, please feel free to reach out to me.
