Ages and Classes of Racers
To join the club, a skier must: (1) be 7 years of age by December 31. (2) be able to get on and off the chair lift without assistance; and (3) have at least one year of good skiing under his or her belt.
USSA has established the following age groupings for purposes of competition:
| GROUP | AGE BY 12/31 |
|---|---|
| J-VI | 7–8 |
| J-V | 9-10 |
| J-IV | 11-12 |
| J-III | 13-14 |
| J-II | 15-16* |
| J-I | 17-19* |
| SENIOR | 20 & UP* |
| MASTER | 21 & UP |
* Indicates seeded competition.
For purposes of training, WPRC generally adheres to the age groupings, with coaches assigned to particular classes (e.g. a J-IV coach). However, depending on the relative abilities of the racers, the coaching staff may permit some racers to train with a class more suited to the racer’s development. Any questions about a racer’s training group should be addressed to the head coach. Male and female racers train together, but compete separately.
