About Us

Western Pennsylvania Race Club is a successfully run ski-racing program based at Seven Springs. The club has been in operation for over 30 years. WPRC promotes the development of youth athletics through alpine ski racing. Young racers ages seven to nineteen are eligible to participate in the club. We schedule training sessions for the racers every Saturday and Sunday from the start of the winter season until approximately the middle of March. Additionally, the club conducts a Christmas Camp for the week between Christmas and New Year's for more focused training.

The club provides organized training and coaching at a reasonable cost. The program addresses a wide range of skill levels from intense training of advanced racers preparing for state and national level competition, to a developmental program for young skiers interested in alpine racing and improving their freestyle skiing. WPRC members have the opportunity to participate in approximately ten races held at Seven Springs each year. These races are all sanctioned by the national governing body, United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA). The club is also part of the Western chapter of the Pennsylvania Alpine Racing Association (PARA).

Although the WPRC members are, technically, the young ski racers, the racers parents are a vital part of the WPRC community. The club depends on the participation of the parents in a wide variety of roles to function during training and race days. It is important that each family joining WPRC understands the commitment required of the parents for successful operation of the club. The volunteer opportunities section of the site described this in more detail . WPRC is a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors made up of parents and coaches.
